Aspirations
I'm quite self critical about the way I work and the code I produce, which keeps me interested in learning new technologies and better ways to work. I'm keen to join a team who's members have a similar approach and are interested in using modern software development techniques. I simply want to make great websites and applications that people enjoy to use.
Employment & Work Experience
IMS|evolve - Web Applications Developer - June 2010 to present
- Full time employment developing the companies web based reporting and ticketing systems.
- I've been working on feature requests for a new set of web applications intended to replace the companies legacy systems. Work has mainly involved designing and implementing new backend Perl APIs, and corresponding ExtJS front end features.
- I've been using a mixture of MySQL, Sybase and Oracle database systems.
Redeye International - Developer - Nov 2004 to June 2010
- Full time employment developing and supporting the companies e-mail marketing and analytics applications.
- My initial role was working on the front and back end of a Perl and PostgreSQL based email marketing platform. As part of a small team, my role was to support the 50-100 users, as well as develop and maintain delivery systems, which at peak send over 2 million emails per day.
- Currently a member of the development team for the companies new email marketing, and analytics application. The projects aim is to consolidate a number of existing systems, taking the best features from each, and producing a single more powerful application. I've been involved in the design and implementation of a Javascript/EXT front end, object orientated PHP backend, and interactions with multiple Oracle databases.
- Played an important role in the migration of the companies Milton Keynes based systems to a new London site. The seamlessly transfer of clients to the new system was paramount, and I was assigned to design and develop the various tools, and configuration procedures required.
That Internet Cafe Ltd - Supervisor - June 2003 to Nov 2004
- I began part time work running shifts in an internet cafe. It was a surprisingly rewarding experience, as this was a new startup, and I got to witness it's progression over its first year of business.
General cafe duties, as well as basic hardware maintenance, and helping customers get the most out of using the internet.
Stockton Borough Carers Resource Centre - Web Designer - Sep 2003 to April 2004
- As part of my final year university module I participated in the development of a community project. The project was completed in cooperation with the Stockton Borough Careers Resource Centre (SBCRC), and the University of Teesside IT response Unit.
- To help encourage greater public involvement in local health and social issues, the SBCRC were promoting a project entitled the Public Involvement Partnership Stockton (PIPS). They required a web presence as a key mechanism for the public to voice their opinions, which was the basis of this project.
- A content management system was designed, and implemented using PHP and MySQL. This provided features such user management, article authoring, and user forums. Site layouts and graphics were produced using Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
